Posted by Dutch The Old Salt on

The art of baking is something for ALL ages.  The process of whisking, rolling, kneading, and forming the dough can be a very cathartic experience.  Invite your kids into the kitchen to teach them how to make these easy biscuits/scones.

2 1/2 all-purpose flour or Gluten-free Cup 4 Cup flour
1 tablespoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon Old Salt Merchant's Bolivian Salt
8 tablespoons (or one stick) of cold unsalted butter (cut up)
1/4 cup Old Salt Merchants Sweet Onion Sugar
2/3 cup milk or buttermilk

How to:
1. Pre-heat the oven to 425 degrees
2. Mix flour, baking powder, and salt into a large bowl
3. Add the cut-up butter and rub with your clean fingers (the kids will love doing this) or you can use pastry blender until the mixture looks like fine crumbs
5.  Add the sugar and toss to mix
6. Add the milk and stir with a wooden spoon until the dough forms (the dough might be a bit crumbly)
7. Lay the dough out on a floured surface and knead gently until the dough comes together in a ball
8. Pat or roll into a circle about 1 1/2 inch thick
9. Use a glass cup to form round shapes or roll into circles or wedges
10. Place the circles on a lined baking tray or greased cookie sheet and sprinkle a little flour
11. Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes
